Reviews
We loved staying here. It had a rustic feel to it, but we loved that. We especially enjoyed the view of Old Rag and other mountains in the morning. The hosts very kindly lent us dishes to eat a meal in our cabin. Proximity to hikes up Old Rag and through White Oak Canyon were also a highlight for us. We'd come back and stay longer next time.
Stayed here for the festival, and will never stay again. We had many, many spiders dead and alive in our room, cobwebs abound, black roaches in the corners of the room and crawling up from the sink, and a worm at one point found its way into the bathroom. The room smelled EXTREMELY musty. No turn down service between days of staying (2 day min. during festival season) The beds were clean, and free of bugs (thank goodness), and the bathroom and rooms were average, but the view made up for a lot of the shortcomings, along with the fact that we were barely there, only to sleep. The festivities the lodge had were great, and breakfast was decent. Buffet for 4 people is 70$, and a 2 night stay was $480, again during the apple festival.
We called and told the lodge all of our concerns, and it seemed the front desk receptionist had heard these complaints before as she got very defensive very quickly. Eager to get off the phone with me. If the lodge could be clean, I wouldn't mind staying but I find it hard to believe it will happen. I've been coming to the apple festival since I was a baby, and the lodge was always super nice and a great experience. In the last few year's it has degraded. Do not pay Hilton prices and expect Hilton service from this place.
Well didn’t stay here looks nice a quaint this review is about the food. Granted this is the only place open on new years and I guess we missed the hint that all meals were buffet based on the description.
We were not expected to serve ourselves at a min coffee and water, coffee not sure sailors would drink it. The buffet seemed to have alot or people running though but what ever the two casseroles were, well the seat we sat on was softer and the ham was dry.
The girls were not very helpful and not sure what they were doing there?
Mc Donald’s isn’t an option but maybe it should have been
We were hoping for a quint, high end mountain retreat to have brunch.
Anyway not what we expected, sorry
The location in the valley is beautiful. Food at the lodge was excellent farm-to-table meals. Very convenient to Skyline Drive. Staff very nice.
Woods by lodge impacted by recent forest fires. Dirt road to Poplar Lodge was was super bumpy.
We went here for the Peach Fest in 2023. It was a wonderful experience. Made me wish we had kids as it was very kid friendly. The pony rides looked very fun. The vendors were varied and interesting. Everyone in our party came home with something to remember the day. The food at the lodge was alright but not exciting. The peach ice cream was homemade style and excellent. The peach wine was to die for! One small glass definitely gave me a nice little buzz. We bought a bottle to bring home. In general, the location is gorgeous. The creek running through the property is really beautiful. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.
We stayed at Graves for 3 days and 2 nights. Overall, we would come back.
PROS:
- Loved the view and the grounds of the lodge. Sunrise and sunset views were amazing.
- the price was just right for someone who just needed a place to stay while visiting Shenandoah National Park.
- loved the community-feeling of the farm. We enjoyed live music and bonfire both nights with the rest of the patrons. There are lounges and lots of activities.
- pet-friendly
- although there is NO signal in the entire farm, their wifi is very strong and worked perfectly for us.
CONS
- the restaurant was a 2/10 experience and expensive.
- it is very secluded, so we had to drive 35 minutes to the closest restaurant the 2nd night.
- the rooms are old, but that wasn’t much of an issue for us.
Had a great experience horseback riding. The horses are well cared for and trained. The experience was memorable and highly recommended. Added excitement included the Graves Mountain Apple Harvest Festival, with music, vendors, hay ride and great food.
